Molecular Recycling: Crafting a Circular Materials Future
Let’s face it: The plastic waste crisis isn’t getting better. Increasing public awareness of the issue may be driving brand commitment and value chain responses, but the industry faces many challenges in tackling this problem. From the pandemic exacerbating existing economic challenges to the limitations of traditional recycling technologies, creating a more circular materials future may not be easy, but it is necessary. To truly transform into a global circular economy, the acceptance and implementation of advanced recycling technologies is critical. While there is no one solution to solve this mounting problem, there are innovations and technologies in the industry today that can help make our future better, brighter and more sustainable. Eastman is committed to the transition to a more circular economy with our molecular recycling technologies. In this presentation, Jon Woods, Eastman’s general manager of Textiles and Nonwoven Fibers, will explain the ins and outs of creating a more circular future – a technology 101, the pros and cons, what technologies work best for which materials, the infrastructure challenges that need to be solved to get more molecular recycling technologies operating at scale, and how we can all work together toward solving the waste crisis one step at a time.
