BIOGRAPHYKaryn Schmidt is Senior Director in the American Chemistry Council’s Regulatory and Technical Affairs Division where she focuses on health, product and science policy issues. Ms. Schmidt leads ACC’s Global Team, and has significant chemicals and plastics regulatory experience in both the US and globally. Ms. Schmidt’s background also includes Proposition 65 and labeling and warning issues.
Ms. Schmidt received her J.D. from the College of William and Mary.

Canadian Plastic Policy Update
Canada has proposed adding the category of “plastic manufactured items” to Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, an action that would result in a “CEPA-toxic” designation for this category and potentially trigger risk management measures. This presentation will review the status of Canada’s actions, exploring why this particular approach may have been pursued and what it means for global chemicals and plastics regulation going forward.
